2010 Campaign

For 2010 the Ware in Bloom Team have concentrated on three main streams:

  • Making the Town Centre displays, entry points and amenities more visible and better maintained.
  • Worked to ensure that Ware in Bloom continues into the future by raising funds.
  • Establishing all year round activity including Bulb Planting, Spring planting around the town and making sure more locations are improved.

Our projects this year have included:

  • Establishing and maintaining a colourful display planter at each of the Town Entry signs
  • St Georges Day Community Action day by Scouts and Guides - Litter picking, ground clearance, benches renovated, flower and shrub beds weeded and the Priory Bridges painted and Lido cleaned.
  • Bulb planting at key sites around the town: Viaduct Road, Fire Station, Kingsway (Guides Centenery), Wareside and Hoe Lane. Many other bulbs were planted by local schools, Hertford Regional College, in Communal Gardens and at road signs - all involving different groups of volunteers.
  • Raised funds from East Herts Council and GlaxoSmithKline to replace the Roman Ware Board in the Buryfield, which had been damaged a number of years ago.
  • Gaining grants from Riversmead Housing Association, East Herts Council and Herts County Councillors Locality fund. This has enabled us to purchase specialist planters and baskets for the town with reservoirs to assist with the watering throughout the summer, which is done by local volunteers.
  • Continued volunteer litter picks in the town and on the tow paths and worked hard to eliminate the flyposting which spoils our town.
  • Establishing a herbal medicinal garden with Priorswood School and Vegeatable garden at Christchurch School which will enable us to produce a teaching resource for all local schools in 2011.
  • Planted a Cherry Tree on the Baldock Street Roundabout  to commemorate the site of the original May Savidge house during a weekend celebrating her life and work in September 2009.
